Oilers look to snap six-game losing streak against Islanders

EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) - The Edmonton Oilers look to break a long losing streak against the New York Islanders on Monday.

The Oilers have dropped six consecutive games against the Islanders since the 1999-2000 season. The teams did not face each other last season.

Edmonton, 2-5-2 in its last nine games, opened a five-game homestand on Saturday with a 3-2 shootout victory over the New York Rangers. The Oilers are 11-2 in shootouts, one win shy of tying the mark set by the Dallas Stars in 2005-06.

Oilers right wing Ales Hemsky returned after missing five games because of a knee injury and defenseman Sheldon Souray rejoined the lineup after sitting out one game because of a nagging shoulder injury.

"Right now we aren't in a situation to be picky about how we get wins," said Oilers center Shawn Horcoff, who scored in regulation. "Beggars can't be choosers. We are certainly very comfortable in the shootouts though. When we go to them we don't feel it is a negative thing."

New York has lost consecutive games in overtime, including a 2-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. That contest opened a five-game road trip for the Islanders, who are 7-9-2 away from home.
