Conklin, Penguins go for seventh straight win

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - A lot can change in a month - just ask Ty Conklin and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 31-year-old netminder will hope to lead the Penguins to their seventh consecutive victory when they visit the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night in the second game of a home-and-home series.

On December 6, 2007, Pittsburgh was stuck in last place in the Atlantic Division and had just suffered the loss of surging goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who sprained his ankle after winning four straight games.

Fleury's injury, however, resulted in Conklin being called up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on December 7. He has made an immediate impact, posting a 7-0-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and two shutouts.

Conklin has started all six games over the club's current winning streak, including Saturday's 3-0 victory over the Panthers. The Alaskan native made 35 saves en route to his second career blanking.

Captain Olli Jokinen leads Florida with 20 goals and 41 points on the campaign. He has 15 tallies and 13 assists in 33 career games against Pittsburgh.

A win Tuesday could lift the Penguins into the division lead, while the Panthers have lost four of their previous five contests.
