Iginla, Flames look for sixth straight win vs. Coyotes
Jan 8, 2008 - 2:40 PM Phoenix (21-18-1) at Calgary (22-14-7) 9:00 pm ESTCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - It took a while but Jarome Iginla has finally led the Calgary FLames to the top of the Northwest Division.
The Flames' captain will try to lead his club to their sixth consecutive victory when they host the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.
Calgary has been one of the NHL's top teams lately, posting a 12-1-4 record since the beginning of December. With a 6-4 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, the Flames took over the first place in the division standings.
Iginla has been a major factor in the club's rise. The Hart Trophy candidate leads the Flames in virtual every offensive category. He has a team-leading 32 goals and 60 points with a plus-19 rating this season.
The Coyotes will look to extend their winning streak to five games as they kick off a four-game road trip.
In the team's most recent contest, Ilya Bryzgalov got the better of his old team, once again. Bryzgalov stopped all three shots he faced in a shootout and Peter Mueller scored the lone goal of the bonus format as Phoenix defeated the Anaheim Ducks, 3-2, on Saturday.
One of the surprise teams in the league this season, the Coyotes can point to the acquisition of Bryzgalov as a major reason for its success. Bryzgalov is 12-8-1 with a 2.20 goals-against average since being claimed off waivers from Anaheim on November 17.
