Canadeins seek eighth straight win over Bruins
Jan 10, 2008 - 1:26 PM Montreal (21-13-8) at Boston (21-17-4) 7:00 pm ESTBOSTON (Ticker) - In a rivalry that dates back more than 83 years, the Boston Bruins have had even more of a reason to dislike the Montreal Canadiens lately.
Alexei Kovalev and the Canadiens will look for their eighth consecutive victory over their Northeast Division rival when they visit the Bruins on Thursday.
Montreal already has defeated Boston in four meetings this season, outscoring the division foe, 19-8, in that span.
Kovalev has been the offensive leader for Montreal this season, tallying a team-leading 18 goals and 39 points. The Russian right wing is currently on a four-game point streak.
The Canadiens will likely start Cristobal Huet in goal after demoting 20-year-old Carey Price earlier this week. Price had started the previous three meeting with Boston.
The Bruins, who are seeking their first victory over the Canadiens since March 3, 2007, are coming off a 1-0 setback to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, snapping the club's three-game winning streak.
Despite battling injury problems this season, Tim Thomas has been solid for Boston in the crease. The 33-year-old netminder has posted a 13-10-3 record with a 2.23 goals-against average and one shutout.
Marc Savard leads the Bruins with 34 assists and 44 points.
