Struggling Blue Jackets look to get offense going

Nov 3, 2006 - 3:12 PM Calgary (3-7-1) at Columbus (3-6-1) 7:00 pm EST

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) - It's not exactly a great secret why the Columbus Blue Jackets have not been successful this season. They simply have not scored enough goals.

The Blue Jackets, whose 22 goals are the fewest in the league, hope to get some offense when they host the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Columbus, which has allowed a respectable 31 goals in 10 games, tallied more than twice for just the second time in seven games Wednesday against the Colorado Avalanche, but it was not enough in a 5-3 defeat.

Sergei Fedorov scored his first goal of the season while Fredrik Modin and David Vyborny also scored for the Blue Jackets, who went a dreadful 1-for-9 on the power play.

The Flames started their three-game road trip on a sour note, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.

Dion Phaneuf and Andrew Ference scored for Calgary, which went 1-for-3 with the extra skater and received 31 saves from Miikka Kiprusoff.
