Senators, Red wings face off in possible Stanley Cup preview

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Hockey fans will be treated to a potential Stanley Cup Finals preview Saturday when the Detroit Red Wings visit the Eastern Conference-leading Ottawa Senators .

The Red Wings and the Senators have established themselves as the elite teams in their respective conferences.

Detroit leads the league in points (70) and goals scored (157) and has just two regulation losses (18-2-3) since November 22.

The Red Wings, who have won six straight on the road, will try to bounce back from a 6-5 shootout loss to Minnesota on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ottawa has won three straight and leads the East with 60 points. Dean McAmmond tallied in the sixth round of the shootout to lead the Senators to a 3-2 victory over Buffalo on Thursday.

Daniel Alfredsson extended his points streak to eight games with his team-leading 26th goal as Ottawa improved to 12-3-1 since its seven-game skid from November 21-December 4.

The Senators, who lost to the Anaheim Ducks in last season's Stanley Cup Finals, have dropped six of the last eight meetings with Detroit.
