Thornton, Sharks go for 11th straight road win
Jan 13, 2008 - 2:43 PM San Jose (25-12-6) at Anaheim (23-17-6) 8:00 pm ESTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - The Pacific Division-leading San Jose Sharks go for their 11th straight road win when they visit the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
San Jose, which has the league's best road record at 16-3-2, has not lost away from home since a 3-2 shootout loss at Anaheim on November 9 and has not lost in regulation since October 27. The league record is 12 straight road wins set by Detroit in 2006.
Coming off a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Toronto at home on Saturday, the Sharks also be going for their eighth win in their last ninth games overall.
Joe Thornton had two assists, giving him five in his last two games as San Jose netted three third-period goals to erase a two-goal deficit. Despite leading the team with 38 assists and 51 points, Thornton has not tallied a goal in his last 13 games - the longest stretch of his career.
The Ducks have won four of their past five contests, including a 5-0 triumph against Toronto on Wednesday. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 28 saves for his 27th career shutout, tying the franchise mark with Guy Hebert.
Corey Perry had his team-leading 23rd goal and two assists in Wednesday's win and has totaled two goals and three assists in his last two games.
Ryan Getzlaf has recorded a point in nine straight games - a career-best - and has four goals and eight assists over that span.
Anaheim has won four of the five meetings between the two teams so far this season.
