Jokinen, struggling Panthers travel to New Jersey

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Captain Olli Jokinen looks to help the Florida Panthers avoid a fourth straight loss when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Jokinen has notched two goals and three points with an uncharacteristic 10 penalty minutes during Florida's three-game skid. The 29-year-old Finn has a team-leading 22 tallies and 44 points on the season.

Despite being the Panthers' top offensive weapon for the last few seasons, Jokinen has not enjoyed much success against the Devils in his career. He has just eight goals and 14 points in 33 games against the Eastern Conference foe.

Florida coach Jacques Martin is also hoping to pick up his 500th career win. He would become just the 10th coach to do so.

The Devils, who have won eight of their last 11 contests, are struggling to hold on to the top spot in the Atlantic Division. They are currently tied for first place with the red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins.

Martin Brodeur, who made 20 saves in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Islanders, has always had a lot of success against the Panthers.

A three-time Vezina Trophy winner, Brodeur is 31-11-7 with a 1.98 goals-against average and five shutouts in his career vs. Florida.
