Stafford, Roy look to build off hat tricks vs. Maple Leafs

TORONTO (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres didn't just end a 10-game losing streak. They made a statement.

The Sabres will try to build off an impressive 10-goal performance when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Drew Stafford and Derek Roy each had a hat trick as Buffalo cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday. Stafford also had two assists, giving him a career-high five points, surpassing his previous best of two.

Roy, who had missed the previous four games with an injured shoulder, also added an assist. The 24-year-old center, who had not scored a goal since December 19, leads the club with 16 tallies this season.

Friday's dominating performance marked the sixth time in Sabres' franchise history that two players posted a hat trick in a single game.

The Maple Leafs will look for their third straight victory after skating to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday. Captain Mats Sundin had an assist in regulation and added a goal in the shootout.

Sundin, who has failed to score a goal in the last five games, leads the team with 20 goals and 51 points this season.
