Kobasew, Bruins set to face Rangers again

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After edging the New York Rangers in a shootout on home ice, Chuck Kobasew and the Boston Bruins will try to complete a successful home-and-home series at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon.

Kobasew scored twice and Phil Kessel and captain Zdeno Chara tallied the in the bonus format as the Bruins posted a 4-3 victory over the Rangers on Saturday. Tim Thomas stopped 25 shots, including a glove save on Petr Prucha in the shootout to set the stage for Chara's winner.

Kessel opened the second round of the shootout by beating Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist between the pads, and Thomas stopped Prucha's wrist shot. Chara then blasted a slap shot past Lundqvist, giving the Bruins their second win in three games.

Scott Gomez and Jaromir Jagr each had a goal and a pair of assists for New York, which has lost seven of its last nine contests and fallen into last place of the Atlantic Division.

Gomez, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, leads the club with 34 assists and 45 points.

All-Star Marc Savard, a former Ranger, leads the Bruins with 39 assists and 50 points.
