Blues G Opilka undergoes hip surgery

Aug 19, 2017 - 3:40 PM St. Louis Blues goaltender Luke Opilka underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left hip labrum, the team announced Saturday.

Opilka, 20, had been dealing with the injury throughout the 2016-17 season while playing for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. He is expected to be sidelined until December.

The surgery was performed by the Blues' orthopedic surgeon, Dr. John Clohisy, at the Washington University Orthopedic Center.

Opilka was 13-13-1 in 31 games for Kitchener last season. The St. Louis native was drafted by the Blues in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL draft.
