Islanders seek revenge against Hurricanes

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- After falling in overtime on their own ice, the New York Islanders will head south in the hope of avenging a heartbreaking loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

One day after squandering a two-goal lead in the third period, the Islanders visit the Hurricanes in the finale of a home-and-home series Tuesday.

Cory Stillman scored a power-play goal 52 seconds into overtime to lift the Hurricanes to a 3-2 comeback victory over the Islanders on Monday.

"Back-to-back wins - first time we've done that in a while," Stillman said. "(It) wasn't the best game we played, but we found a way to win."

Cam Ward stopped 23 shots for Carolina, which last won consecutive games December 15-18 against the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Hurricanes trailed, 2-0, before a pair of third period goals by Niclas Wallin and Mike Commodore drew them even.

A trip away from home might be just what New York needs, as the club has failed to win at Nassau Coliseum since December 29, 2007. The Islanders, however, have won three straight road contests.

The Islanders also came away with a victory in Carolina on New Year's Eve, skating to a 4-1 victory on the strength of two goals by Marc-Andre Bergeron.
