Avalanche aiming to stay hot against Predators

DENVER (Ticker) -- Despite several key injuries, the Colorado Avalanche have gotten hot.

Closing in on first place in the North West Division, the Avalanche seek their fifth win in six games on Tuesday, when they host the Nashville Predators.

Colorado had dropped six of seven games without Paul Stastny, Ryan Smyth and captain Joe Sakic, who all remained sidelined. But the recent run has pulled the Avalanche within one point of the first-place Minnesota Wild in the Northwest Division.

Ben Guite, Tyler Arnason and Jeff Finger each scored a goal and Jose Theodore made 26 saves for Colorado en route to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

Theodore has been terrific lately, posting a 4-0-1 record and a 1.74 goals-against average with a shutout in his last five games.

The Predators also have been hot lately, going 7-2-2 in January, and enter Tuesday's contest on a two-game winning streak.

Nashville completed a sweep of a weekend home-and-home series against the St. Louis Blues with a 6-3 victory on Sunday.

Alexander Radulov and Martin Gelinas each scored two goals and added an assist for tPredators, who are tied for second in the Central Division with the Blue Jackets.
