Red Wings look for sixth consecutive victory

Nov 4, 2006 - 4:28 PM Columbus (4-6-1) at Detroit (8-4-1) 7:00 pm EST

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings have found a way to end up on top in the tight games.

The Red Wings aim for their sixth consecutive victory when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday.

In moving to the top of the Central Division, Detroit has been stellar in one-goal games, winning its fifth straight with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. Henrik Zetterberg and Robert Lang both netted a third-period goal as the Red Wings rallied to extend the winning streak.

The Blue Jackets are also coming off a thrilling win, defeating the Calgary Flames, 5-4, in a 13-round shootout on Friday. Manny Malhotra shot a wrister past the pads of Jamie McLennan that ended the second-longest shootout this season.

Defenseman Duvie Westcott had two goals and goaltender Pascal Leclaire recorded 28 saves.

Detroit has lost just three of its last 14 meetings with Columbus here.
