Slumping Senators look to avoid third straight loss

Nov 4, 2006 - 4:32 PM Carolina (7-6-2) at Ottawa (5-6-0) 7:00 pm EST

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Ottawa Senators just have not been the same club as last season.

Ottawa gets another shot at shaking its early-season hangover when it hosts the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

The Senators have lost two straight, the latest defeat coming at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, 4-2.

Jason Spezza and Tom Preissing scored the goals for Ottawa, which was blanked in seven power-play opportunities.

The Hurricanes try to regroup after a 4-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. Carolina did get 31 shots on Montreal netminder Cristobal Huet, but failed to capitalize on eight power-play chances.

Carolina netminder Cam Ward only stopped 23-of-27 shots by Montreal.
