Bruins look to bounce back against Islanders

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins hope to bounce back from their worst loss of the season when they host the New York Islanders on Thursday.

The Bruins suffered an 8-2 defeat to Montreal on Tuesday, their ninth straight setback to their Original Six rival. It was the most goals the Bruins have allowed this season.

Netminder Alex Auld yielded four tallies on seven shots in the first period, and All-Star Tim Thomas allowed the last four over the next two periods.

But the Bruins have fared well defensively against the Islanders this season, allowing four goals in three games - winning two of those contests.

New York comes in after a 6-3 win at Carolina, which was the Islanders' fourth straight victory on the road.

The Islanders tied a team record with three shorthanded goals in the contest - two from Mike Sillinger.

The Bruins currently have the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, as both teams are playing their final game before the All-Star break. The Islanders are one point ahead of them for the seventh spot.
