Maple Leafs gunning for another win vs. Capitals

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have been on fire recently but will have a hard time continuing their winning ways against the Washington Capitals, who are likely seeking revenge for their most recent loss.

The Maple Leafs and Capitals conclude a home-and-home series Thursday with their second matchup in as many days.

Mats Sundin scored with 29.2 seconds left Wednesday to lift Toronto to a 3-2 victory over Washington - its fourth win in five games.

Sundin, who also added an assist during the game, has at least one point in his last three games against the Capitals. The Maple Leafs' captain has 20 goals and 32 assists this season.

Tuesday's victory was also the first under interim general manager Cliff Fletcher, who took over after John Ferguson was fired Tuesday.

Washington had won four straight games before Tuesday's loss to Toronto, which was just its fourth in its last 13 games.

Despite the loss, Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 39th goal of the season while Alexander Semin recorded his 12th tally of the campaign for the Capitals.
