Rangers kick off four-game road swing at Carolina

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - The New York Rangers open up a four-game road trip at Carolina on Tuesday.

The Rangers swept a pair of games with Atlanta to finish in a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference before the All-Star break.

New York and the Hurricanes have played twice this season, both in New York. Carolina won the first December meeting, 4-0, before losing three weeks later, 4-2.

The Rangers, 4-4-2 in their last 10 games, are 7-10-6 on the road. The Hurricanes, whose 52 points are six less than the Rangers, lead the Southeast Division by a point over Washington with a .500 record through 52 games.

Carolina had a two-game winning streak end before the break with a 6-3 home loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday. The Islanders tied a team record with three shorthanded goals, two by Mike Sillinger. It was the third time in franchise history and first since 2000 that New York scored three shorthanded goals in a game.

"The odd one once in a while is going to happen, but three in a game is unacceptable," Carolina defenseman Mike Commodore said. "Those are supposed to be opportunities for us to score, and we didn't do that."

The road trip will also take New York to Philadelphia, New Jersey and Montreal.
