Former NHL defenseman Picard dies at 78
Sep 15, 2017 - 7:13 PM Former NHL defenseman Noel Picard died after a long battle with cancer, according to the St. Louis Blues. He was 78.The Blues said Picard died last week in Montreal.
Picard is the St. Louis player who appears in the iconic photo in which Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins is horizontally flying through the air after scoring the overtime goal to win the 1970 Stanley Cup.
Picard played six seasons with the Blues from 1967-73. He also played with the Montreal Canadians and Atlanta Flames.
He scored 75 points (12 goals, 63 assists) in 335 regular-season games and had 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 50 playoff contests.
