Red Wings go for eighth straight win

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) - Niklas Backstrom has the Minnesota Wild rolling, but no team is hotter than the Detroit Red Wings.

All-Star Pavel Datsyuk looks to extend his point streak to seven games as the Red Wings go for their eighth consecutive victory Tuesday when they visit the Wild.

Datsyuk, who now leads Detroit with 65 points, has a tally and nine assists over his six-game surge. The 29-year-old Russian scored a goal and set up another in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins.

The Red Wings have a comfortable lead in the race for the Presidents' Trophy. They have 84 points, which is 16 more than any other team.

The Wild enter Tuesday's matchup with a lot of momentum, though. Not only is the club on a three-game winning streak but they have moved to the top of the Northwest Division, leading the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche by three points.

Backstrom has won each of his previous four starts and is 20-9-2 with a 2.43 goals-against average and two shutouts this season.

Marian Gaborik, who leads the club with 28 goals and 55 points this season, tallied twice as Minnesota cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
