Sharks look to extend home winning streak vs. Avalanche
Feb 6, 2008 - 1:09 PM Colorado (28-21-5) at San Jose (29-16-7) 10:30 pm ESTSAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The San Jose Sharks hope to continue their recent winning ways at home on Wednesday when they host the Colorado Avalanche.
The Sharks opened their season-high six-game homestand Saturday with their third straight win at HP Pavilion, a 3-2 shootout victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. San Jose is 6-2-0 in its last eight home games but just 12-11-4 here this campaign.
"It's important to get it going at home, and hopefully we can keep this up while we're staying around for a while," Sharks center Joe Pavelski said after Saturday's triumph.
All-Star goaltender Evgeni Nabokov has been hot of late, posting 11 of his league-leading 29 victories since December 26. The native of Kazakhstan also has posted two shutouts and a 1.45 goals-against average during that stretch.
After winning the Maurice Richard Trophy in 2005-06 with 56 goals, Jonathan Cheechoo has netted just 11 in 45 games this season. But the 27-year-old product of Moose Factory, Ontario appears to be finding his scoring touch, registering four tallies in his last four contests.
Colorado is 2-3-1 in its last six games and is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to Phoenix on Monday. But it has received consecutive two-goal performances from rookie T.J. Hensick and will begin getting back some of its injured players.
Netminder Jose Theodore is expected to start Wednesday after missing the previous thre games with back spasms. A former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner, Theodore is 6-4-1 with a 1.94 GAA and .930 save percentage in his last 11 starts.
Paul Stastny also could rejoin the lineup. The 22-year-old, who leads the Avalanche with 49 points in 46 games, has been sidelined since January 15 after undergoing an emergency appendectomy that forced him to miss the All-Star Game.
Both captain Joe Sakic (hernia) and left wing Ryan Smyth (broken ankle) remain sidelined, however.
