Modano to be honored when Stars visit Wild

Feb 7, 2008 - 2:02 PM Dallas (32-20-5) at Minnesota (30-19-4) 8:00 pm EST

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) - Mike Modano is the last remaining member of the Minnesota North Stars still with the franchise, and on Thursday he will be honored for his accomplishments where his career began.

The Minnesota Wild will honor the Dallas Stars' veteran for his overall contributions to United States hockey prior to Thursday's game between the clubs.

Modano spent his first four years in Minnesota before the franchise moved to Dallas after the 1992-93 season. He scored 309 of his 1,263 career points - the record for a U.S.-born player - while the franchise was called the North Stars.

It has been a rough go of it of late for the perennial All-Star, who has been held to just three points and one goal in the last eight games. But left wing Brenden Morrow has picked up the slack, finding the net in each of the past three games and totaling six points during Dallas' current four-game winning streak.

The Stars earned a 3-2 shootout win against Vancouver on Tuesday, with Morrow tallying the shootout clincher. Marty Turco made 22 saves in the victory, and has allowed just four goals over the last three games.

The Wild have been nearly as hot of late, winning three in a row before dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Brian Rolston and Pavol Demitra tallied in the setback for the Northwest Division leaders.

Rolston has scored in six straight games, the longest streak of his career.

Dallas has won two of the three meetings between the teams this season, with the Stars taking the last meeting, 3-1. Antti Miettinen scored twice for Dallas.
