Rangers look to end skid vs. rival Flyers
Feb 9, 2008 - 11:39 AM Ny Rangers (27-24-6) at Philadelphia (30-18-5) 1:00 pm ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- It's already a close battle atop the Atlantic Division. The New York Rangers can join the mix with a win Saturday afternoon.
Chris Drury will try to help the Rangers avoid a third straight loss when the club travels to the City of Brotherly Love for a showdown with the rival Philadelphia Flyers.
Drury had his four-game goal-scoring streak snapped Thursday as New York suffered a 4-1 setback to the Anaheim Ducks. The 31-year-old center leads the club with 17 goals this season.
Drury, who also has 22 assists on the campaign, scored a goal and set up another as the Rangers blanked the Flyers, 4-0, in their most recent meeting on January 31. Stephen Valiquette made 20 saves in that one to record his first career shutout.
New York has won three of the four meetings between the teams this season.
Philadelphia responded nicely from that loss, winning its next two contests before falling to the Washington Capitals, 4-3, on Wednesday.
The Flyers currently are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for first place in the division with 65 points, and the New Jersey Devils trail by just one. The Rangers sit in fourth place, five points out of first.
If New York wishes to close that gap Saturday, it will have to find a way to stop Philadelphia's top-ranked power play. With former Ranger Mike Knuble leading the way with 14 man-advantage goals, the Flyers have converted a league-best 25.1 percent of their power-play opportunities.
