Sabres look to continue playoff push vs. Maple Leafs

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres are on a roll and it's beginning to show in the standings.

One day after recording his first career hat trick, Thomas Vanek and the Sabres will look to strengthen their playoff positioning on Wednesday night as they host the Toronto Maple Leafs in a Northeast Division matchup.

Buffalo has posted a 7-0-2 record over its previous nine contests. As a result, the Sabres have climbed into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.

Vanek scored three goals in Tuesday's 5-1 triumph over the division-leading Ottawa Senators. The 24-year-old has seven tallies over the last seven games and has 20 goals and 39 points on the season.

The Maple Leafs are seeking a rare three-game winning streak. The club has managed the feat just twice this season - with their longest surge being four contests from November 29-December 6, 2007.

Nik Antropov scored the game-winning tally 62 seconds into overtime as Toronto defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2, on Saturday in its last game. Antropov has 19 goals and 23 assists on the campaign.

This will be the fourth meeting of the season between the two clubs. The Maple Leafs have a 2-0-1 record against the Sabres this season, winning the last two meetings.
