Knights lose 2nd goalie to injury

Oct 23, 2017 - 3:13 AM The Vegas Golden Knights are on an unprecedented run for an expansion franchise with a 6-1-0 start, but they are faced with some real adversity now.

The team announced Sunday that goaltender Malcolm Subban was placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body ailment. He is expected to miss approximately four weeks.

That is rough news for the Golden Knights, who already are without No. 1 goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. He has been sidelined for a week with a concussion.

To fill the roster void, the Knights called up goaltender Maxime Lagace from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League before their next game on Tuesday night at home against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Subban, 23, had a 2-0-0 record with a 2.06 goals-against average in three games for the Golden Knights. He was picked up by Vegas after he was waived by the Boston Bruins at the end of training camp.

In Vegas' win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night, Subban stopped 37 of 38 shots before he was injured in the third period. So far this season, he has given up six goals on 94 shots.

Oscar Dansk replaced Subban after the injury and made 10 saves on 11 shots in the overtime win. That was the NHL debut for the 23-year-old Dansk, a second-round draft pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2012.

"Injuries provide opportunities for others, and that is the situation we have here," Vegas general manager George McPhee said. "Our top two goaltenders are currently sidelined so we will now give our AHL goalies the chance to play in their absence. We felt Oscar Dansk performed well in relief on Saturday in his NHL debut."

Lagace had a 2-2-0 record with a 3.24 goals-against average in four games this season with the AHL's Wolves. Last season with the AHL's Texas Stars, the undrarfted 24-year-old posted an 11-12-2 record with a 3.56 goals-against average and a .883 save percentage.

The Golden Knights no longer have Calvin Pickard as a potential fill-in after he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs a few weeks ago.
