Flyers face Canadiens looking to end losing streak

MONTREAL (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Flyers are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, but they might not be there for long.

The Flyers try to snap a five-game losing streak when visit the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Philadelphia suffered its fifth straight setback on Thursday during a 5-3 loss to the lowly Tampa Bay Lightning. The Flyers held a 2-1 lead after the first period before the Lightning scored four unanswered goals to pick up their eighth straight win at the Wachovia Center.

Despite its recent woes, Philadelphia has stayed competitive, losing by one goal three times during its slide while being outscored, 19-12. However, the Flyers are just one point ahead of the Buffalo Sabres and two points in front of the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers in the standings.

Things won't get any easier on Saturday against the Canadiens, who are fourth in the Eastern Conference and are coming off a 2-1 overtime victory against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.

Christopher Higgins tied the score at 12:34 of the third period before Alexei Kovalev notched his team-leading 26th goal of the season on the power play in overtime, helping Montreal end a three-game losing streak.
