Devils go for second straight win against Senators

OTTAWA (Ticker) - The New Jersey Devils continue their pursuit towards the top of the Eastern Conference when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

New Jersey is just four points behind the conference-leading Senators and posted a 3-2 overtime victory over Ottawa on Wednesday. The win also gave Devils' goaltender Martin Brodeur victory No. 30, marking the 12th consecutive season the veteran has achieve the feat - an NHL record.

Although New Jersey is coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to Atlanta on Friday, the Devils know how important the stretch run is.

"We know what time of the season it is, we know it's crunch time," New Jersey right wing Jamie Langenbrunner said. "We need to move up, and we have to play well to do that."

Brian Gionta broke a 13-game goal-scoring drought in Wednesday's win, tallying the game-winner and dropping the slumping Senators to 5-9-1 in their last 15 games.

Jason Spezza recorded an assist in the defeat and the center now has three goals and seven assists in his last four games, cleary benefiting from the return of linemates Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson.

Spezza, who leads the team in assists with 49, had a six-point game on February 9 against Montreal.

Ottawa's leading scorer, Alfredsson has gone without a point for two straight games. The right wing had tallied five goals and eight assists in his previous three contests.
