Blue Jackets continue trip against Blues
Feb 17, 2008 - 3:46 PM Columbus (27-24-9) at St Louis (26-22-9) 6:00 pm ESTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Coming off one of their most impressive wins of the season, the Columbus Blue Jackets continue their five-game road trip on Sunday when they visit the St. Louis Blues.
The Blue Jackets opened the trip with a 5-1 victory at Detroit on Friday, which snapped a three-game losing streak.
Columbus, looking to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, has climbed within three points of the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.
Fredrik Modin, who has missed 47 games this season with a series of injuries, seems to be making up for lost time. He registered a pair of goals against the Red Wings and has three in two games since returning to the lineup.
Overall, the 33-year-old left wing, who finished second on the club with 22 goals last season, has only five in 13 contests this campaign.
After Sunday's contest, the Blue Jackets made a tour through Eastern Canada with games against Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. They do not return home until February 27, when they host San Jose.
The Blues are coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
All-Star Manny Legace stopped the first 39 shots he faced before giving up the tying goal midway through the third. Legace made 42 saves overall but yielded the game-winner just 40 seconds into overtime.
Yan Stastny notched his second career goal in his Blues' debut. Stastny, who was recalled from Peoria of the American Hockey League earlier in the week, registered his only previous goal as a member of the Boston Bruins in the 2005-06 season.
