Getzlaf has surgery to repair cheekbone

Nov 7, 2017 - 7:33 PM Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf will be sidelined for as many as two months following surgery to repair his fractured cheekbone, the team announced Tuesday.

Getzlaf sustained the injury after taking an errant puck to the face following a deflected shot from Sebastian Aho during an Oct. 29 game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 32-year-old Saskatchewan native, who does not wear a visor, promptly was placed on injured reserve following the incident.

The season has been a trying one for Getzlaf, who had already missed eight games due to multiple injuries.

Getzlaf has collected one goal and six assists in six games this season. The forward has recorded 237 goals, 584 assists and 736 penalty minutes in 867 career contests since being selected by Anaheim with the 19th overall pick of the 2003 NHL draft.
