Thrashers hope to avoid third straight loss

TORONTO (Ticker) - The Atlanta Thrashers will continue their five-game road swing Saturday night with a meeting against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Thrashers are in danger of losing their third consecutive contest and falling out of the Southeast Division race.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa - who is expected to be dealt before Tuesday's trade deadline - each had two assists Thursday but Atlanta still suffered a 5-3 setback to the division-leading Carolina Hurricanes.

With the loss, the Thrashers fell five points behind the Hurricanes in the Southeast.

Kovalchuk leads the club with 40 goals and 69 points this season. He is one of only two players - the other being Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin - who have 40 tallies this season.

Atlanta concludes its road trip Tuesday with a visit to Montreal.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Mats Sundin leads Toronto with 24 tallies and 61 points this season, despite rumors that he may be playing somewhere else by the trade deadline.

If the popular veteran is moved, this will be his final game in Toronto as a member of the Maple Leafs this season.
