With historic loss behind them, Rangers host Panthers

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After rebounding from a historic loss, the New York Rangers look to extend their points streak to seven games on Sunday when they host the Florida Panthers.

On Saturday, the Rangers posted a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres, a win that came two days after they squandered a five-goal lead in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

It marked the first New York had ever lost a game in which it led by five goals.

Sean Avery snapped a tie Saturday with 5:05 left in the third period, helping the Rangers improve to 4-0-2 in their last six games - their longest points streak of the season.

"It was an up and down game," New York's Jaromir Jagr said. "It was a tough game for us after we blew a 5-0 lead in Montreal. We didn't know how the team was going to react. I don't think we played extremely well, but we played well enough to win it."

The Panthers ended a three-game losing streak with a dramatic 2-1 overtime win in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester tied the game with 3.7 seconds left in regulation and captain Olli Jokinen scored 3:44 into overtime as the Panthers remained six points behind first-place Carolina in the Southeast Division.
