Ovechkin continues quest for 50 goals

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - Alex Ovechkin has not scored a goal in five games and the Washington Capitals are suffering because of it.

Ovechkin will hope to help the Capitals snap a three-game winless streak Tuesday night when they host the Minnesota Wild.

Despite his recent struggles, Ovechkin still leads the league with 48 tallies on the season. With two goals, he would become the quickest player to reach 50 since Pavel Bure did it in 63 games in 2000.

Ovechkin, who is on his longest goal-scoring drought since his rookie season, did assist Alexander Semin's goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.

Semin has tried to elevate his game with Ovechkin struggling, scoring in each of the previous five games.

The Wild are also winless in their past three contests and have fallen out of the Northwest Division lead. Minnesota, which will now kick off a three-game road swing, suffered a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
