Maple Leafs, Panthers face off after trades

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - The Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers meet Wednesday, a day after completing two trades.

Toronto sent right wing Wade Badek to Florida for a 2008 fifth-round pick, while picking up a third-round pick in this year's draft from the Panthers for left wing Chad Kilger.

Florida traded Ruslan Salei, its second-highest scoring defenseman, to Colorado for defenseman Karlis Skrastins and a 2008 third-round pick. The Maple Leafs sent defenseman Hal Gill to Pittsburgh for a 2008 second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in 2009.

The Maple Leafs will be trying to avenge their worst loss of the season, an 8-0 home loss to the Panthers on February 5.

The Panthers have lost four of their last five games to fall into a tie with Toronto near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

The Maple Leafs have won four of their last five games, including a 5-0 win at Ottawa on Monday. The game was the first for Toronto center Mats Sundin since he declined to waive his no-trade clause.

In his five career appearances against the Maple Leafs, goaltender Tomas Vokoun is 3-1-1 with a 1.60 goals-against average. Toronto goaltender Vesa Toskala was 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA against the Panthers prior to the blowout loss.
