Lightning move on without Richards, Prospal

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning look to snap a five-game losing streak when it hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.

Mired in last place in the Eastern Conference despite a high payroll, the Lightning were big players at the NHL trading deadline on Tuesday, sending away center Brad Richards and left wing Vaclav Prospal.

Richards, who won the Conn Smythe trophy when Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup in 2004, made a quick impression on his new team - the Dallas Stars - on Thursday, tying the NHL season-high with five assists.

The Lightning fell behind, 2-0, before losing, 3-2, to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday in their first game without Richards and Prospal.

Toronto has won three games in a row and now sits within shouting distance of the playoffs in the wide-open Eastern Conference. The Maple Leafs (65 points) are just six points behind the Philadelphia Flyers (32-25-7, 71 points) for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Toronto owns a 2-1-0 advantage in three games against Tampa Bay this season, including a 4-3 shootout victory in their last meeting, on January 1.
