Bruins host Thrashers looking to carry momentum into March
Mar 1, 2008 - 11:29 AM Atlanta (29-31-5) at Boston (34-23-6) 1:00 pm ESTBOSTON (Ticker) -- While sorry to say goodbye to February, the Boston Bruins are hoping to continue their recent success as March begins.
The Bruins go for their season-high sixth straight victory on Saturday afternoon, when they host the Atlanta Thrashers at TD Banknorth Garden.
After opening February with four losses in its first five games, Boston closed the month with a 6-0-1 record to climb into a tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers.
The Bruins continued their winning ways on Thursday with a dominating 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marco Sturm scored twice in the first period and All-Star Marc Savard, Chuck Kobasew and Glen Metropolit each notched two assists to lead Boston to its fifth consecutive win.
Conversely, Atlanta has lost its last five contests, including a 5-4 overtime setback to the New York Islanders on Thursday. Appearing listless in their first home game after trading All-Star Marian Hossa to Pittsburgh, the Thrashers fell behind, 3-0, before rallying to force overtime.
Atlanta enters the contest eight points behind first-place Carolina in the Southeast Division. The Thrashers also are eight back of Philadelphia for the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference.
