Flyers hope to end offensive woes against rival Rangers

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have a chance to move past the New York Rangers in the standings, but first they will have to find a way to score against their Atlantic Division rival.

The Flyers will seek their fourth straight victory Sunday when they visit the Rangers, a team they have failed to score against in their last two meetings.

New York backup goaltender Stephen Valiquette has blanked Philadelphia twice for the only two shutouts in his career. Valiquette made 20 saves in a 4-0 triumph on January 31 and then turned aside all 31 shots he faced on February 9 in a 2-0 win.

Valiquette has made just nine starts this season, posting a 4-3-2 record with a 2.19 goals-against average and .915 save percentage. But with his success against the Flyers, he could get the nod again Sunday.

The Rangers are in third place in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of the Flyers.

After suffering through a 10-game winless skid (0-8-2), Philadelphia picked up its third consecutive victory Saturday as Mike Knuble scored a shorthanded goal and set up two others in a 4-1 triumph over the New York Islanders.

The Rangers also are surging as they have a 6-0-2 record over their last eight games, including a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
