Streaking Red Wings go for seventh straight victory

Nov 8, 2006 - 4:32 PM Edmonton (7-6-1) at Detroit (9-4-1) 8:00 pm EST

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings got off to a shaky start, but have looked like their old selves lately.

The Red Wings, winners of six straight and the President's trophy winners last season, look to extend their streak when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

Detroit's latest triumph was a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Dan Cleary had two goals for the Red Wings, who outshot the Blue Jackets, 37-17. Dominik Hasek was not that busy in making 16 saves.

Edmonton comes off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. Brad Winchester and Petr Sykora scored the goals for Edmonton in regulation while Ales Hemsky scored the only goal in the shootout.

Dwayne Roloson made 34 saves for the Oilers, who were blanked on four power-play chances in the first game of a five-game road trip.

In the only meeting this season, Edmonton defeated Detroit, 3-1, on October 21. Sykora, Joffrey Lupul and Steve Staios scored for the Oilers while Pavel Datsyuk scored the Red Wings goal.
