Hurricanes host Wild in matchup of division leaders

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - The Carolina Hurricanes look to continue their march toward the Southeast Division crown when the Minnesota Wild make a rare visit on Thursday.

Carolina has won five of its last six games, including a 6-3 victory over Atlanta on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes currently hold a three-point edge over Washington (32-28-8) in the division.

"We're getting to be a confident team and believing in ourselves," said Carolina right wing Erick Cole, whose club has earned at least one point in nine of its last 11 games (8-2-1). "When you have that, it's going to carry over on the ice. Every two points are important. It doesn't matter whether it's a division game or not."

Cole had a goal and an assist and Eric Staal recorded his second straight three-point night with two tallies and one assist in Wednesday's win.

Minnesota, which is in its own heated division race, will be making its first visit to Carolina since a 1-0 defeat on March 7, 2003.

The Wild, who saw a three-game win streak end in a 4-2 defeat to Chicago on Tuesday, are tied with Calgary (35-23-9) for first place in the Northwest Division.

Pavol Demitra tallied his 14th goal of the season in the loss and has registered a point in four straight contests.
