Blue Jackets look to get back into playoff picture

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) - The Columbus Blue Jackets are on the outside looking in, and it's not getting any better.

The Blue Jackets will try to snap a two-game slide and gain some ground in the Western Conference playoff race when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

Columbus currently sits six points behind Vancouver and Nashville - both with 76 points - for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West and the team has only 14 games left.

Returning home for just their second game since February 15, the Blue Jackets will be looking to snap an 0-4-2 stretch at Nationwide Arena. They have not earned two points on home ice since a 3-2 win over Vancouver on January 15.

Columbus lost at Calgary, 1-0, on Tuesday, failing to convert in six power-play chances. The man-advantage has been a big point of concern lately, as the Blue Jackets are 0-of-27 over their last eight games.

Goaltender Pascal Leclaire has been sharp all season and has held strong of late, starting the last nine games and surrendering two goals or less five times.

The Oilers are struggling through another losing season, as only the Los Angeles Kings (26-37-5) save them from being in last place in the Western Conference. They had a four-game winning streak snapped Tuesday in a 5-1 loss to Nashville.

Edmonton dropped the first two meetings in the season series, but earned a 4-3 shootout win over the Blue Jackets on Sunday. Alex Hemsky tallied in regulation and had the only goal in the shootout.

Rick Nash, who leads Columbus with 56 points, has four goals this season against the Oilers.
