Flames' Iginla takes another shot at history

Mar 7, 2008 - 2:04 PM Nashville (34-26-8) at Calgary (35-23-9) 9:00 pm EST

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - Jarome Iginla's scoring has him on the verge of franchise history, and has the Calgary Flames in the midst of a tight playoff battle.

The Calgary captain needs one tally to move into first place on the Flames' all-time scoring list when the Nashville Predators visit Friday.

The 30-year-old All-Star, who needs one tally to pass Theoren Fleury (364) for the franchise lead, was held off the scoresheet for the second time in the last four games in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It has been Iginla and his 79 points this season that has paced Calgary to the top of the Northwest Division and into the third spot in a wild Western Conference playoff race.

The Flames (79 points), are tied with the Minnesota Wild (37-26-5, 79 points) at the top of the Northwest, just one point north of Colorado (36-26-6, 78 points).

Calgary has won two games in a row and is 6-1-1 in its last eight contests. Defense has been a key during the run, with the Flames yielding a total of five goals in the six wins.

Both of goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff's shutouts this the season have come in his past five starts.

The Predators (76 points) dropped a 6-2 decision to Vancouver on Thursday, leaving them in a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West with the Canucks (33-24-10, 76 points).

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak and marked just the second time in the last eight games that Nashville has failed to score more than two goals.

Calgary dominated the first two games this season, winning by a combined 12-5 as Iginla poured in three goals. But Nashville won the most recent meeting, 3-0 on January 15, behind 22 saves from Chris Mason.
