Struggling Senators hope to avoid fourth straight loss

GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) - The slumping Ottawa Senators hope to salvage the final game of a four-game road trip when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday.

Ottawa has lost all three games - including one in overtime - on its West Coast swing, and is just 1-5-1 in its last seven contests.

The Senators were shutout for the third time in their last seven games, a 2-0 blanking to Los Angeles on Thursday. With the exception of a 5-4 victory over Pittsburgh, Ottawa has scored just four goals during its recent slump.

The slide has dropped the Senators - who were in first place of the Eastern Conference for most of the season - to the fifth seed. Ottawa is two points out of first place in the Northeast Division behind Montreal (37-22-9).

Phoenix has alternated wins and losses in its past six games and is coming off a 4-2 loss to Montreal on Thursday.

Shane Doan scored a goal for the third straight game in the loss and continues to lead the team with 65 points. Radim Vrbata leads the team with goals but has not tallied in eight straight games.

It is the Senators' first visit to Phoenix since Ottawa posted a 4-1 victory on January 29, 2004.
