Ducks hope to break scoreless string vs. Canadiens
Mar 9, 2008 - 1:05 PM Montreal (38-22-9) at Anaheim (38-25-7) 8:00 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - The Anaheim Ducks hope to break out of their offensive funk Sunday when they host the Montreal Canadiens.
Teemu Selanne played his first game since coming out of retirement on February 5 and Anaheim responded by reeling off 11 wins in 12 games, averaging over three goals during that span. But the last two contests have not gone as smoothly, as they have been shut out at Chicago and at Colorado.
Selanne produced 12 points in his first 11 games.
The Ducks will need the "Finnish Flash" even more now that Corey Perry, who leads the club with 29 goals, is out six weeks after suffering a right quad tendon laceration when he was cut by Colorado goaltender Jose Theodore's skate on Thursday.
Anaheim, which owns the second-best home record in the league at 22-8-4, will have a tough test against the Canadiens (85 points), who have won five of their last six games and are currently second in the Eastern Conference playoff race, just one point behind the New Jersey Devils (40-23-6, 86 points).
Montreal scored three times in the second period Saturday in a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings. The Canadiens have scored 22 goals in the past six games and lead the NHL with 222 tallies this season.
