Streaking Avalanche aim for home-and-home sweep of Stars

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Jose Theodore and the Colorado Avalanche aim for a seventh straight win when they visit the Pacific Division-leading Dallas Stars on Sunday in the finale of a home-and-home series.

After sitting behind Peter Budaj for most the season, Theodore has gotten hot and is a big reason the Avalanche are in the thick of the postseason race.

The 11-year veteran has posted 1.32 goals-against average while starting every game of the winning streak. Theodore continued his excellent stretch by stopping 25 shots in a 3-1 win over Dallas on Friday.

Peter Forsberg notched a pair of assists in the win - his first points since signing a one-year deal on February 25.

"It was a huge win for us," Theodore said on Saturday. "We've just got to keep it going and keep the winning streak going. You can see it, too, we're playing with confidence and it's great to be out there."

Behind the solid play of Theodore, the Avalanche are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the Northwest Division with Minnesota (37-26-6) and Calgary (35-23-10).

However, history is not on Theodore's side when he faces the Stars on the road. He is just 0-5-0 with a 3.52 GAA in six games at Dallas.

As for the Stars, they are looking to avoid a season-high tying fourth straight loss. Dallas has scored just one goal in each game of the skid, and leads San Jose (39-21-8) by just one point in the Pacific Division.
