Canadiens aim for rare season sweep of Devils

MONTREAL (Ticker) - The last time the Montreal Canadiens took a season series from the New Jersey Devils they ended up hoisting the Stanley Cup.

The Canadiens are in position to repeat that feat on Tuesday when they host the Eastern Conference-leading Devils, who are 1-2-0 against Montreal this season.

Montreal, which can overtake the Devils for first in the conference with a win in regulation, took two of three meetings from New Jersey in 1992-93 en route to its last Stanley Cup title.

The Canadiens, who are 9-4-0 in their last 13 games, would no doubt like history to repeat itself.

Montreal, which posted a 2-1 victory over New Jersey on March 1, has not won three straight over the Devils since a four-game run from October 10, 1988 - October 13, 1989.

Reigning Vezina Trophy winner Martin Brodeur will do his best to make sure that does not happen. Brodeur, who has started 27 straight games, stopped 42 shots in a 2-1 win over Toronto on Saturday.

Brodeur, who has stopped 104 of 107 shot the last three games, is 12-3-3 with a 1.91 goal-against average in 18 starts since February 2.

Zach Parise scored his second goal of the game with 48.3 seconds left in regulation as the Devils posted their third straight win.
