Flyers try to snap three-game slide vs. Islanders

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Scoring goals has been an extremely infrequent occurrence for the lowly Philadelphia Flyers this season.

Coach John Stevens hopes the Flyers finally can snap their scoring drought and end a three-game losing streak Thursday when they host the New York Islanders.

Since taking over for Ken Hitchcock, Stevens has led Philadelphia to two wins in six games. However, the Flyers are last in the league in victories (3), points (7) and goals (29), and have not scored more than four times in any game this season.

Ben Eager netted his first goal of the season for Philadelphia, which failed to score on seven power-play opportunities in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Islanders coach Ted Nolan accused his team of quitting after Monday's 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, their second straight defeat after a three-game winning streak.

Alexei Zhitnik scored his second goal of the season for New York, which surrendered three power-play tallies and is just 1-for-13 with the man advantage in its last three contests.

Philadelphia won six of the eight encounters with the Islanders last season, including a 4-1 triumph in their last showdown April 18.
