Maple Leafs, Flyers complete home-and-home series

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - If the Toronto Maple Leafs are able to reach the NHL playoffs, they could likely point to Tuesday's game with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The two teams get together on Wednesday, a day removed from the Maple Leafs' 4-3 victory over the Flyers, to conclude a home-and-home series.

Toronto trailed 3-0 in the third period Tuesday, but erased the deficit to force overtime. Pavel Kubina's goal 4:04 into the extra session moved Toronto within seven points of eighth-place Philadelphia in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Maple Leafs are 6-2-1 in their last nine, but with just 11 games to play, the team remains a longshot to reach the playoffs. A regulation loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday would virtually end their postseason hopes.

Goaltender Vesa Toskala has made 22 consecutive starts for the Maple Leafs, who are in last place in the Northeast Division.

Philadelphia is 5-1-2 in its last eight games after snapping a 10-game winless streak. The Flyers trail first-place New Jersey (40-24-6) by seven points in the Atlantic Division.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the teams this season. Philadelphia had won the first two games prior to Tuesday's overtime loss.
