Ducks can set NHL record for season-opening points streak

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) - Although they took the word "Mighty" out of their name, the Anaheim Ducks have refused to lose in regulation.

The Ducks can set an NHL record for points in consecutive games to start a season when they open a two-game road trip Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Off to the best 15-game start in franchise history, Anaheim can record a point in its 16th consecutive contest, surpassing the 1984-1985 Edmonton Oilers for the longest all-time season-opening points streak.

The Ducks are 4-0-1 on the road this season and are the league's only team without a regulation loss. Three of their defeats have been in shootouts and the other was a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on November 1.

Teemu Selanne scored his fourth goal of the season in overtime and Scott Niedermayer collected two assists to lead Anaheim in Monday's 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Ducks had a 40-17 edge in shots on goal.

After consecutive defeats on the road to the Minnesota Wild and the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver returned home and posted a 2-1 triumph over the Dallas Stars on Monday.

Taylor Pyatt scored a power-play goal with 45 seconds remaining and defenseman Kevin Bieksa added his second tally in the opening period for the Canucks, who are playing the second contest of a six-game homestand.

Anaheim has won the last three encounters against Vancouver, including a 4-2 triumph in their most recent meeting April 10.
