Bruins look to continue home dominance of Lightning
Mar 13, 2008 - 12:47 PM Tampa Bay (27-35-8) at Boston (36-26-8) 7:00 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - Fighting for their playoff lives, the Boston Bruins are likely happy to see the lowly Tampa Bay Lightning coming into town.
Boston aims to snap out of its funk on Thursday against the Lightning, who have the Eastern Conference's worst record.
The Bruins have to like their chances - the club is 20-0-2 with six ties all-time against Tampa Bay in Boston and has won 10 of the last 12 meetings overall.
Boston, which is currently one point ahead of Philadelphia (35-27-9) for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference, is 1-3-2 in its last six games.
Defenseman Dennis Wideman scored with 2:26 remaining to keep the Bruins from being shutout in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Ottawa. A big reason for Boston's recent slump has been its woeful power play.
The Bruins have scored just three man-advantage goals in their last 37 opportunities. They have also been without captain Zdeno Chara, who lead the team with nine power-play tallies, for the last two games. Chara has an upper body injury and his status remains day-to-day.
Tampa Bay is just 2-8-2 in its last 10 games, but is coming off a 8-4 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
Vincent Lecavalier recorded his fifth career hat trick and Michel Ouellet tallied twice as the Lightning set a season-high in goals.
