Red Wings host Stars in Western Conference showdown

DETROIT (Ticker) - The Detroit Red Wings go for their fifth straight win when they host the Dallas Stars in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Western Conference on Thursday.

Detroit, which owns the league's best record, has won four straight games after dropping 10 of its previous 11.

The Red Wings are coming off a 3-1 victory over Chicago on Tuesday, outshooting the Blackhawks 47-20.

Pavel Datsyuk scored the go-ahead tally late in the second period and the right wing has now registered a point in five straight games.

The Stars are in a battle for their own division, trailing the red-hot San Jose Sharks (41-21-8) by one point in the Pacific. San Jose is on a franchise-record 10-game winning streak.

Dallas snapped a three-game skid with a 3-0 shutout of Colorado on Sunday.

Goaltender Marty Turco made 19 saves for his 33rd career shutout, while Brad Richards added a goal and an assist.

Detroit has won two of the three games between the teams this season.
