Playoff push continues for Capitals, Predators

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - The Washington Capitals and Nashville Predators face off on Tuesday in a matchup of teams battling for playoff spots.

The 10th-place Capitals, with their sites set on eighth place Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference, have won seven of their last 10 games. Washington extended its unbeaten streak to three games on Sunday with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Boston Bruins.

The Predators ended a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 3-1 victory at Detroit. Dan Ellis made 34 saves for the Predators, who won in Detroit for the first time since March 21, 2006.

"We really put the pedal down," Ellis said. "Now we realize the way we have to play."

Nashville is currently sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference standings - four points back of a trio of teams with 84 points.

Tuesday's game is the only meeting of the season between the teams, who haven't squared off since the Predators' 5-2 victory over the host Capitals on December 7, 2005.

The game kicks off a season-high six-game road trip for Washington, 15-15-5 away from home.
